Volunteers of America has worked in the United States since 1896 and is designated tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3); in Texas its wider work includes 41 housing sites for seniors and people with disabilities, rapid re-housing and reintegration programs for homeless veterans, community re-entry services for people leaving prison, and addiction treatment for women including those who are pregnant or have children. Casa Cecilia is a six-bed residential recovery home for women in Thermal, run by the Riverside County Latino Commission, whose facilities are the only Spanish-speaking substance use facilities in Riverside County. The 60-day inpatient program covers individual and group counseling, relapse prevention and aftercare, and is licensed and certified by the California Department of Health Care Services. It is funded through Riverside County Medi-Cal — California's Medicaid program — with private and military insurance, public assistance and a sliding scale for self-pay also accepted.

Frontier Health has provided behavioral health care across northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia since 1957, and its Community Connections clinic on Champions Avenue in Big Stone Gap offers outpatient mental health and substance use treatment — individual and group psychotherapy, psychiatric services and crisis support.
