This is the teen substance use service of the Riverside Latino Commission on Drugs & Alcohol, at 1612 First Street in Coachella, California. It treats adolescents on an outpatient basis, so a young person keeps living at home and attending school while they are in the program, and it serves families across the Coachella Valley. Care starts with a psychological and medical assessment. What follows draws on substance education, coping-skills training, work on managing emotions and on communication, individual counseling and family counseling, with group discussion sessions tied to the educational classes. The program ends with relapse-prevention work and an aftercare plan. The Christian Guidance Center is the residential substance use treatment and detox program of Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, a faith-based non-profit that has served Detroit's homeless and addicted communities since 1909 and now reaches more than 1,600 men, women and children a day. Treatment for men here sits inside one of the city's largest housing providers, so recovery is connected to shelter and continuing support rather than ending at discharge.
