Mental Health Centers

Bethesda Lutheran Services has cared for children, youth and families in northwestern Pennsylvania since 1919, when it was incorporated as the Orphans' Home of the Pittsburgh Synod; it now reaches more than 7,000 children, youth and families. Its Meadville campus offers residential treatment, a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility, Intensive Treatment Units staffed around the clock by specially trained staff, alternative education, partial hospitalization, and community- and school-based behavioral health services. Families without insurance, or underinsured, may be offered a capped fee under the sliding scale or apply for financial assistance; Medicaid, Medicare, private and military insurance and state funding are accepted.

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is a non-profit pediatric academic medical center in Cincinnati, Ohio, offering inpatient psychiatric and substance use treatment for children and adolescents. The hospital’s Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry provides residential-level care for youth with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, with specialized programming for hearing-impaired patients. Cincinnati Children’s is one of the oldest and most distinguished pediatric hospitals in the United States, founded in 1883.

New Directions for Veterans (NDVets) has provided comprehensive services to veterans in Los Angeles County since 1992. Founded by two formerly homeless Vietnam veterans, the organization offers substance abuse treatment, counseling, job referral and placement, money management classes, and legal and tax assistance. NDVets serves men and women veterans and their families, and is licensed by the California Department of Health Care Services. The program accepts Medicaid and Medicare.

Lakes Regional Community Center in Mount Pleasant, Texas, serves Northeast Texas with mental health, substance use counseling, and intellectual and developmental disability services. Formed from a state-operated program and governed by a community nonprofit board, the center provides substance use counseling and treatment for teens and adults, early childhood intervention, veterans services, and crisis support. Lakes Regional accepts Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, military insurance, and state-financed health plans.

Birch Tree Communities is a nonprofit therapeutic community providing behavioral health care and supportive housing for adults living with serious mental illness in Arkansas. Founded in 1989, the organization operates 12 locations serving approximately 400 members with rehabilitative day treatment, illness management, supervised housing, and expressive arts programming. Birch Tree is the largest therapeutic communities provider in Arkansas and accepts Medicaid.

Arrow House provides residential mental health treatment for adolescents in Orange, California, with specialized programming for depression, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder. The facility offers individual and family therapy alongside academic support to help teens maintain their education during treatment. Arrow House accepts private insurance.

Florence Crittenton in Phoenix, Arizona, is a residential treatment program that has served the community since 1896.
