Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch has cared for young people since welcoming its first child in 1957 and runs psychiatric residential treatment (PRTF) on its historic Billings campus on South 72nd Street West, alongside therapeutic group homes and statewide community-based services. The program works with youth affected by trauma and complex mental health needs, and its admissions team helps families choose within that statewide network. Private insurance including Blue Cross Blue Shield and TRICARE is accepted, as are state-funded placements.

Discovery Ranch is a residential treatment center for boys aged 13 to 18 on a 20-plus acre campus in Mapleton, Utah, in the Rocky Mountains. It treats anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, ADHD, autism spectrum conditions at Level 1, school refusal and emotional dysregulation, delivering 10 to 15 hours of therapy a week across individual, family, group and experiential sessions, with clinical care integrated into academics so students do not fall behind. Embark Behavioral Health's Springville residential treatment center works with adolescent and teen girls, and with nonbinary and LGBTQ+ young people, on Level 1 autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression and mood disorders. Set near the Springville freshwater springs, it blends inpatient mental health care with outdoor experiences, daily fitness and schooling, using approaches including trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy. Private insurance is accepted; Embark states that it cannot accept Medicaid for this program, so cover should be settled before admission.

Cathedral Home for Children has worked with young people and families in Laramie since 1910, and its campus on North 3rd Street combines residential treatment with outpatient counseling, crisis intervention and community-based support for youth with complex behavioral health needs. Children's Home Society of South Dakota traces its work to 1893, when it was founded as the state's first nonprofit social service agency, and its Black Hills Children's Home campus on South Rockerville Road outside Rapid City provides psychiatric residential treatment for children alongside outpatient mental health services including psychiatry and individual, family and group therapy. Each residential campus includes a school certified by the South Dakota Department of Education. The agency is accredited by the Council on Accreditation and licensed by the South Dakota Department of Social Services, and its care is trauma-focused.

Mingus Mountain Youth Treatment Center is a non-profit residential behavioral health inpatient facility for adolescent girls aged 12 to 17, set in the Prescott National Forest area of Arizona. It treats substance use and co-occurring mood and trauma-related disorders, working with young people who have often experienced significant and complex trauma in early childhood, and it has completed a three-year certification in the Sanctuary Model — a whole-organization trauma-responsive approach built on shared values and practice rather than a single therapy. Education is delivered on site, and an equine therapy program helps residents work on relationships and boundaries.
