Frontier Health – Community Connections

Frontier Health has provided behavioral health care across northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia since 1957, and its Community Connections clinic on Champions Avenue in Big Stone Gap offers outpatient mental health and substance use treatment — individual and group psychotherapy, psychiatric services and crisis support. Addiction and co-occurring mental health conditions are treated together rather than in sequence, which is the organization's stated position on what makes recovery hold. Around the clinical work sits the rest of Frontier Health: vocational recovery services using the Individual Placement and Support model, which puts people into competitive employment with ongoing support rather than pre-employment training; developmental disability services; and sponsored residential home services. Spanish-speaking callers can reach an interpreter directly. Medicaid, Medicare, private and military insurance, state funding and public assistance are accepted, with a sliding scale for self-pay.
