Alleghany Highlands Community Services

Because it is a community services board, AHCS runs services that a standalone clinic would not. A Clubhouse psychosocial rehabilitation day program supports people living with serious mental illness. A crisis intervention site, operated with Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor, gives CIT-trained law enforcement officers a secure place to bring someone in psychiatric crisis to be assessed by a mental health professional rather than taken to a cell. And a drug court operates as an alternative to conventional prosecution, run by a team spanning judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, probation officers, police and behavioral health clinicians. Alongside these, the agency provides intellectual disability services and prevention work.
