Although you may wish to quit using opiates entirely upon learning of a pregnancy, the withdrawal symptoms of an opiate detox can be very hard on the fetus and can result in miscarriage as well. Fortunately, methadone (and in some cases, buprenorphine) is proven a safe and effective medication for use by pregnant women.
