Serenity House has provided substance use disorder treatment in Abilene since 1984, serving over 36,000 people. Its Abilene campus includes a 20-bed medically supervised detox unit and a residential treatment center designed in a home-like setting. The program offers a full continuum of care from detox through residential, outpatient, and sober living at The Legacy. Admission begins with a free one-hour screening available 24/7, and the organization also runs youth prevention programs in the Wichita Falls area.

Betty Hardwick Center is the designated Mental Health and Intellectual and Developmental Disability Authority for Callahan, Jones, Shackelford, Stephens and Taylor Counties, based in Abilene, Texas. Its outpatient substance use treatment pairs medication-assisted treatment with counseling from an interdisciplinary team that includes peer recovery coaches, and serves both adolescents and adults. The center accepts Medicaid and Medicare and does not turn anyone away based on ability to pay.
