More about Oxford House - Monument
Oxford House Monument is an ordinary rented house in Freehold, New Jersey, in Monmouth County, run by the men who live in it. With 10 beds it is one of the bigger houses: the weekly share is spread further, and there are more people to live alongside.
There is no staff here and nobody is a patient. The residents hold the charter themselves, elect their own officers, and divide the rent, utilities and household bills between them, which is what keeps a week here within reach of someone just back at work. The charter comes down to three rules: run the house democratically, pay its own way, and immediately expel anyone who goes back to drinking or using. Nobody leaves on a schedule — most arrive after detox or a residential program and stay until they are ready to go.

Poor example of sober living, maybe 2 people are involved in the program, and only one person actively does stepwork. most of the people in the house have been there 2 plus years and have accomplished nothing and have no plans to do anything. people on suboxon after more than a year, and everyone is all talk. Supposed to be democratic but only vote on things when it’s convenient for the house president or other higher ups in the home. Very cliquey. Doesnt follow Oxford house rules but impose them on other houses. Have a holier than thou attitude and act like they know everything, but aren’t actually willing to listen to anything. Very quick to threaten to get physical and start yelling.

No one here actually goes to meetings, maybe 2 out of 10 of them have sponsors and work the program, they just hold this holier than thou mindset because they’ve all been here for 2 plus years instead of working to actually get out and start their own life. Very cliquey and a perfect example of the people who talk the most but know the least.

Good atmosphere and positive vibes. The main dude was cool, very knowledgeable. You could tell he was really trying to help people get there lives back together and stay sober. Way better then what I …
This place changed my life!
I love it my brothers there are all fantastic. We are like family. Thank you Mr. Vick for giving me another chance at life by having a place for me to stay sober!!
This is a wonderful place for people who are ready to start and live a sober life.
It was horrible they kicked me put for following the rules and saying I'm only here to be out of prison and I need to only stay 90 days and they said it was so wrong to not be a drug addict
