The Knots Prayer – A Recovery Strength Prayer
A simple prayer to recite whenever fear, guilt, shame or self-doubt threaten to derail your recovery efforts.
You have real goodness inside you and you can achieve your goals – don’t let self-doubt and negative self-talk derail you from your full potential.
Recovery isn’t just about stopping the drugs or drinking (though that's a substantial and necessary ingredient) it’s also about finding the courage to identify what you want in life and then working toward realizing your goals.
Life is movement and change. You can’t just float in the current…you’re either moving forward or you’re losing ground.
Living consciously takes effort and it requires self confidence and a belief that you can achieve your goals. When you don’t feel strong enough from within, ask for help from without.
Here’s a great prayer to recite whenever the negative voices in your head threaten to take over.
Recite it any time you need a little help from your Higher Power.
The Knots Prayer
Dear God,
Please untie the knots in my mind,
my heart and my life.
Remove the have nots,
the can nots, and the do nots
that I have in my mind.
Erase the will nots,
may nots,
might nots that may find
a home in my heart.
Release me from the could nots,
would nots and
should nots that obstruct my life.
And most of all,
Dear God,
I ask that you remove from my mind,
my heart and my life all of the “am nots”
that I have allowed to hold me back,
especially the thought that
I am not good enough.
Amen1
