Barstow Treatment Centers

Advanced Therapeutic Services runs outpatient addiction and behavioral health treatment from two Southern California sites, in Barstow and Rancho Mirage. Its clinical lineage is unusual for an outpatient program: co-founder Jim Herndon co-authored an abstract in the ASAM Journal of Addictive Diseases in 2005 finding that buprenorphine detoxification improved patient retention, and that protocol went on to be recognized nationally as a model for opiate detox. Josie Ramirez-Herndon, the founder and chief executive, has worked in behavioral health and addiction services since 1987. The program is a Blue Distinction Center by Anthem Blue Cross and holds CARF accreditation.
