Hope Continues With Aftercare

Regardless of how well the lessons of drug rehab are integrated, and regardless of how strong the motivations towards sobriety; there will always come a period of extreme temptation during which recovering addicts may wonder if they can possibly have the strength and resolve needed to continue to resist. As temptation grows day by day, seemingly increasing in its intensity, it's easy to feel despair and hopelessness; and with a loss of hope comes an inability to continue the fight.
Recovering addicts need to retain hope for the future as they battle with sobriety, and the best way to do this is to stay involved and stay active with drug treatment aftercare. Aftercare may be a 12 step support group such as AA, it may be a peer support therapy group, or it may be one on one meetings with an addictions professional; but only through continuing participation, continuing inspiration, and continuing learning can hope be nourished, and resolve continually strengthened.
Drug treatment may be at its most intensive during a residential rehab stay, but to truly beat an addiction, treatment needs to continue for months or even years after sobriety is achieved.
