Fleury apologizes for his play and behaviors with the Ranger during the 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 seasons.

Theo Fleury, who was in New York yesterday to promote his autobiography, “Playing with Fire” told a New York Post reporter that he regrets the way he acted and performed as a Ranger while addicted to alcohol and drugs, saying, “The truth is, I feel terrible that the Ranger organization and Ranger fans had to witness me at my worst; I really do.”

Fleury said that then Rangers GM Glen Sather tried to help him, but that he wasn’t ready at that point to accept intervention.

Fleury has alleged that he was sexually abused by the junior hockey coach that recruited him, Graham James, over a period of years, and that the abuse transformed him into a “raging alcoholic lunatic.”
