Synopsis

Proverbs 3:5

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understandings, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5

Our behaviors while using alcohol or drugs prove very well that when we turn away from the Lord, we - and all around us - suffer for it.

It's this arrogance and selfishness of will that keeps so many of us on a path to destruction for so long. We will not submit, we think we know better, and even when we pray, our words of prayer are corrupted by our deeds of pride.

We are very lucky - one and all - that the Lord forgives with such generosity. But He does! He will forgive us, and more than that, He will reveal to us the path, the straight path.

Without the guidance of the Lord we suffer, with His guidance we rejoice. Easy decision! Trust in Him, see the path…and walk it. Be with Him and be happy.

1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

1 Corinthians 10:13

Getting over an addiction to drugs or alcohol is tough. It takes work, but more than that, it takes faith!

Trust in the Lord and you will overcome! God does not tempt us with more than we can bear. He may tempt us mightily, for in our suffering we draw closer to Him, but He will walk with us always; and He will always lead us from temptation, if only we have the humility to ask for His help.

You can get over addiction, that's the word of God. Believe this, and believe in His power to heal. You can’t do it alone, but you don’t have to!

Open your heart to Him. Pray to Him, and find His strength in your weakness. Listen to the word of God and rejoice, for He will lead you out of this. Have faith.

Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

Worry doesn’t take us very far forward, prayer does. Spend less time worrying about your problems, and more time praying, and find your answers present themselves to you.

Pray humbly and with real gratitude for His many gifts, and then leave it behind. He will grant you the peace and wisdom you need, so pray and then sleep well.

Find peace in Christ. You need it.

Pray!

Romans 7:15

I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.

Romans 7:15

Paul speaking on the laws of God and man does a pretty good job of describing the inner torment of addiction and alcoholism. We do not act as we want, we act as we do not want, drawn to use and abuse through our weakness, through our sin.

We drink or use drugs, knowing in our hearts and minds that how we live does not please God, yet we feel so strongly pulled towards sin by the evils of the flesh.

God's laws are absolute and they are just, and the answer to recovery (as to all things in life) can be found within God's love and compassion towards us, weak as sinful as we are. We are weak, yet God is infinitely strong, and though we prove over and over again that we cannot overcome our weaknesses alone, God can, and He can do it easily.

So the answer to addiction is to live by the laws of God, and to use His grace and power as a better substitute to our own faulty weakness and judgment. God's laws are absolute, and if we can live by them we save ourselves from so much needless pain.

We are sinners all, and we are weak. Addiction and alcoholism are evils against the laws of God. Follow the laws of God and walk the path He has chosen and find yourself delivered away from your weakness towards His strength.

It's not easy to do, but it is the way, it is the Word.

Through God's grace, you can get better.
