Anyone suffering an addiction to crystal meth needs to stop now, not tomorrow, now.

How to Quit Meth

Incredibly addictive and possibly the most harmful drug in existence, the physical and mental destruction of meth abuse is unparalleled and tragic. Fortunately, those people who can and do quit will recover, and can expect a life of greatly better health and happiness.

Crystal meth, an easily manufactured drug using only an assortment of household and other chemicals induces a cocaine like high that lasts for hours instead of minutes. While high on crystal meth, users feel energized, confident, euphoric and great pleasure. Meth addicts will often go on multi day meth binges, taking increasingly more meth as the effects wear off until they can eventually no longer feel the effects of the high, often becoming dangerously unstable, and then crash into a depressed sleep that can last for days. The cycle then repeats.

The Risks of Meth

Meth addiction causes an acceleration of the aging process, and a few years of heavy meth use can look like a few decades of hard living. Meth corrodes virtually all of the organs, leads to severe early dementia and erodes the enamel from the teeth, leading to painful dental disfigurement.

Most tragically though, meth affects the brain's ability to create pleasure producing chemicals, and with enough abuse, the brain can become damaged beyond repair.

Thankfully, most people can and do recover from their meth addictions, but there is truly no time to wait. The longer you delay needed treatment, the harder the necessary period of recovery, the lower the probability of success, and the greater the risks of lasting mental and emotional damage.

Crystal Meth Withdrawal Symptoms

It's very easy to become addicted to meth, and recreational use can progress to dependence with frightening speed; and once addicted it's very tough to quit. When you try, you will experience symptoms of withdrawal that include deep depression, lethargy, prolonged and unpleasant sleep, increased appetite, suicidal thoughts and irritability; and all with extraordinary cravings to take more meth. Most people can’t beat meth on their own. Most people need professional help, and most people need to get help at a residential facility, far removed from temptations and access to the drug, and allowing enough time to recover, to focus on healing, and to learn once again how to live without meth.

Meth addicts need individual and group therapy, they need cognitive behavioral training and they need peripheral health programs that help to restore some of the vitality robbed through meth abuse. It's a long and tough road, but you can do it, and you must do it. The sooner you start the easier it will be and the better your chances for a full recovery.
