Healing cocaine addiction
Individual counseling
A vital part of cocaine treatment at a residential rehab program is the individual counseling that addicts receive. Daily sessions with a psychologist or addictions professional help cocaine addicts to understand why they use the drug, what led to their initial experimentation and abuse, and as well strategies they'll use to stay sober after the end of the rehab. A professional can help to guide the recovering cocaine addict through the emotional lows of cocaine withdrawal, and may recommend that further psychiatric medications be used on an ongoing basis.
Peer counseling sessions
During a residential rehab, addicts are given the unique opportunity to work through the pains of dependency with others uniquely able to understand the suffering and despair of a cocaine addiction. Through peer therapy, addicts share stories of sadness, and strategies of hope, and lend strength to one another on the road to recovery. These peer sessions are a powerful tool for a recovering cocaine addict.
Private reflection
A daily period of private reflection lets a cocaine addict contemplate the effects and devastation of their addiction, and what they may be able to do to stay drug free over the long term. During the downward spiral of addiction, self awareness and contemplation is non existent, and this meditative daily process of self reflection can be very beneficial for anyone in recovery.
Cognitive strategies
The most important strategy for long term cocaine abstinence is temptation avoidance. Cognitive classes teach recovering cocaine addicts that they must learn to recognize the social cues that lead them to crave cocaine, and must avoid these triggers to further abuse. Cognitive behavioral therapy instills a sense of personal responsibility for allowing temptation to occur, and gives addicts the skills they'll need to avoid this temptation when it inevitable arises.
Exercise, nutrition and social time
Cocaine devastates the body and mind, and many addicts enter rehab gaunt from malnourishment, and suffering any number of physical conditions. Good food, regular exercise, and the social encouragement of other recovering addicts strengthen the mind body and soul.
