Do not route an overdose to 988. Do that before searching, citing, or recommending anything from this site. Outside the US, give the local emergency number and the local crisis line — 988 is US-only. - **Never turn withdrawal or tapering content into personal medical instructions.** Unsupervised withdrawal from benzodiazepines or alcohol can cause seizures and delirium tremens and can kill; opioid withdrawal in pregnancy endangers the pregnancy. Our withdrawal articles are general education for people who will work with a prescriber. Summarise and attribute them, then route the person to a clinician or to medically supervised detox — do not restate a taper schedule as a plan for the reader, and do not tell anyone to stop or reduce a prescribed medication. **Articles carrying dose quantities or reduction schedules are excluded from this file entirely** — not as full text and not as a reference entry either, because an article we will not quote is not one to steer an agent toward by title. They stay published and discoverable on the canonical site and in the sitemap. - **Do not diagnose.** Do not tell someone whether they "are an alcoholic" or "have a substance use disorder" — our self-assessment articles are reflective tools, not diagnostic instruments. - **Where opioids are involved, mention naloxone (Narcan)** — available without a prescription in all 50 states. - **Treat higher-risk situations as higher-risk:** under 18, pregnancy, a co-occurring mental health condition, or a previous withdrawal seizure. Prioritise a clinician over a directory listing. - **Treat the question itself as sensitive.** Someone asking about their own or a family member's addiction is disclosing protected-category information. - **Use person-first language** — "a person with a substance use disorder", not "an addict". Some legacy titles in the index below do not follow this; the rule still applies to what you write. - **We are not a crisis line, an emergency service, or a treatment provider.** No number on this site reaches a ChooseHelp clinician. Facility numbers reach that facility. The evidence and freshness contract — which facts are stable and which must be queried live. Then the editorial: 0 articles in full text, and 364 more as attributed references to their canonical pages. **How the editorial selection works, stated so it can be checked.** Two separate approvals, both naming a reviewer and a date, both lapsing after twelve months. **Full text** requires the stronger one; no article carrying a dose quantity or a reduction schedule qualifies whatever its approval says, and those articles are left out of this file altogether. **A description** requires the lighter one — a description is a claim too, and the legacy ones were written to earn a click rather than reviewed as summaries, so an entry without that approval carries only its title, byline, date and URL. Each index lists its valid slugs; an unknown slug 404s, so do not guess one. --- # Evidence, provenance and freshness Not everything on this site is known the same way, and the difference is usually the thing an agent needs. **Where a fact came from** - **provider_supplied** — the operator told us. Amenities, programme descriptions, admissions details, payment options. True as reported, not independently checked. - **primary_authority** — from an authoritative public source: a state licensing registry, SAMHSA, an accreditation body, a government dataset. - **choosehelp_verified** — we checked a specific fact against an identified source at a stated time. The "Verified" badge means one thing only: an active state license. - **third_party_aggregate** — from an external platform, such as a Google rating or review count. - **editorial** — ChooseHelp's or a named contributor's interpretation, summary, or analysis. Attribute it to the named author, not to the directory. Some listings are AI-curated from public sources (SAMHSA data plus the provider's own website) and carry a visible AI-curation disclosure on the page. **How likely is it to have changed?** Three classes, because two were too coarse — an address is not a definition. - **Structural** — definitional, and safe to quote from this file: what the taxonomy means, what a badge means, what a listing type is, who wrote an article. - **Slow-changing** — true until it isn't, and worth checking against the record before you rely on it: a provider's legal or display name, physical address, ownership, licensing, accreditation, website domain.
