Oregon Man Indicted on Manslaughter Charges After Friend Dies from Heroin Overdose

A Washington County grand jury has indicted Kaleb Abraham from Aloha Oregon on manslaughter charges based on his actions following the heroin overdose and eventual death of a housemate.

Eluard Corzo-Bernal, 21, died of a heroin overdose on May 19^th of this year. On the night of his death, Abraham, a regular heroin user, injected the occasional user Corzo-Bernal with heroin. A few hours later, another housemate found Corzo-Bernal unresponsive. Abraham was awoken and he performed CPR on the unconscious man, which worked to restore breathing and a pulse. Although Corzo-Bernal remained stuporous, Abraham then returned to bed; only to be reawakened hours later after Corzo-Bernal once again stopped breathing.

Abraham again attempted CPR, but was unable to revive the man a second time. He then chose to drive Corzo-Bernal to a hospital, where Corzo-Bernal later died.

Police say that Abraham drove the victim to the hospital to avoid inviting paramedics into a home filled with drugs and drug paraphernalia; and in doing so greatly delayed lifesaving interventions.
