This screening test is called the CRAFFT test and it was developed by researchers at the Center for Adolescent Substance Abuse Research (CeASAR) at Children's Hospital Boston. It is designed exclusively for use by those under the age of 21 and it’s proven to be an effective first screening test to unearth possible alcohol problems. The test is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics' Committee on Substance Abuse.

The CRAFFT Alcohol Screening Test

C - Have you ever ridden in a CAR driven by someone (including yourself) who was "high" or had been using alcohol or drugs?

R - Do you ever use alcohol or drugs to RELAX, feel better about yourself, or fit in?

A - Do you ever use alcohol/drugs while you are by yourself, ALONE?

F - Do you ever FORGET things you did while using alcohol or drugs?

F - Do your family or FRIENDS ever tell you that you should cut down on your drinking or drug use?

T - Have you gotten into TROUBLE while you were using alcohol or drugs?1
