Iowa
Alcohol and marijuana have traditionally been problematic across Iowa, and only in the last decade has the devastation of crystal meth compounded the pain and misery caused by addiction in the state. Heroin and cocaine are less common, but still present challenges, and prescription pill abuse has ensnared tens of thousands.
For those with comprehensive health insurance, there are excellent drug treatment programs available, both in and out of state, but thankfully, even those without insurance can access treatment. The State of Iowa will fund treatment for those that meet certain criteria, and there are also several free or completely free drug and alcohol rehabs operating for those in real need.
