Although creative classrooms and student centered learning are encouraged, a hallmark of high school in a drug treatment program is a strictly enforced code of conduct.

Integrated treatment and education

Although the educational programming should be designed to maximize academic potential, it remains integrated within the overall drug treatment programming and it must maintain the same standards of behavior and discipline throughout to induce behavioral and social change.

Teachers should be educators first and disciplinarians second, but they must be trained and experienced working with troubled youth with the potential for behavioral disruptions. Demanding a strict code of conduct benefits the students as it accelerates the pace of learning and also as it increases the student's ability to interact appropriately in social educational situations.
