5000 Canadians in 4 cities will race between 10 bars in an attempt to break the Guinness Record for the world's largest pub crawl. MADD calls the event "A recipe for disaster."

Canadians in four cities are joining together as they strive to break the record for the world's largest pub crawl, hopefully, to be recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Organizers hope to see nearly 5000 people in Halifax, St John's, Ottawa and London race between 10 bars in a single night. Critics just hope the tragedy they foresee doesn't materialize.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Spokesperson, Pauline Newton called the pub crawl, "A recipe for disaster ... It makes me shudder what could go wrong.'' She also hoped that organizers would be held responsible for any alcohol related injury or death.

She called the pub crawl an event that encouraged binge drinking and targeted young people, and considered it, "the most irresponsible thing I've ever seen."

The event organizer, Jonathon DeYoung, 23, defended the pub crawl, saying that no one needed to drink any alcohol to participate. He referenced last years failed attempt at the record, in which 3300 revelers participated, without incident, as a justification for this year's larger attempt. Last year's world record bid was derailed by registration problems.

The current pub crawl record is held by London England, where 2278 participants moved between 18 bars on Oct. 14 2006.
